Praise for The God Particle
“A complex and action-packed techno-thriller, sharing blood with early Dean Koontz works and a twist of Michael Crichton’s high technology.”
“The God Particle is the twisting, turning tale of Ricardo Alomar’s fight to make sense of his broken world. The premise is true high-concept sci-fi, with the company building a kind of time-displacement generator utilizing the Higgs boson — the so-called “God Particle.”
About The God Particle
Acclaimed comic writer and cartoonist behind Rock Opera, Rod Keirkegaard Jr builds on the success of Obama Jones & The Logic Bomb with his latest Science Fiction novel, The God Particle.
Driven not only the death of his friends but also the unexplained disappearance of their bodies from the morgue, Ricardo Alomar, in tandem with a foul-mouthed, sexually harassing female cop, discovers the secret of the Higgs Boson machine and the startling truth behind the disappearances. But the answer is utterly unlike anything he’d ever expected.
The God Particle eBook Rod Kierkegaard Jr
I was hooked by the main plot of a big secret business and the unusual way the main owners disappeared. But just as the last man left standing, Ricardo, best bud of all we get the sense of normalcy and day-to-day dealings that are the working parts of anyone's life when things go awry.
Enter the investigators "Castle"-like, and the conspiracy theories and twists that you don't see coming laid out subtle like crumbs to find and think on. Very "X-File" to me and the science and the secrecy.
All I can say is I was drawn in quickly but also was confused with the huge amount of time spent on Ricardo's father and his writings. The ending was satisfing but too short. I think there will be another book? To help with the mentioned "black sky's in the distance". This definitely had me hooked and ready for the book to move with Ricardo and Lucy being more of the main characters. And more about the Company changing and Ricardo's part in it too.

The God Particle eBook Rod Kierkegaard Jr Reviews
Not what I expected. Seems more literary than sci-fi, but in a good way. The sudden deaths of four friends and the subsequent collapse of his safe and boring life fling insurance actuary, Ricardo Alomar, into his own alternate dimension where he is forced to grow up. Emotionally, Ricardo is stuck at five, the age at which he was abandoned by his hippie mother and left in the care of his self-absorbed father. The time-displacement idea does allow Ricardo and his detective girlfriend to do things that otherwise would be insanely stupid (like keeping a "zombie" in his apartment). To me it's not essential to the plot. Ricardo has lived vicariously through his more daring friends, who have used him shamelessly. Their loss leaves him as lifeless as they appear to be. Solving the mystery and moving beyond his fear shows him that he never really needed them. The 4 rating is not meant to be denigrating, even "Slaughter-House Five" has only a 4.3.
Ricardo Alomar's life sucks. His four best friends have died under mysterious circumstances. Being the good guy that he is, he neglects his life and work to help the family with the funeral arrangements. Why? Maybe because it will give him some points with Jen while she's mourning for her dead husband. He's been crushing on her years and now is his chance to be the hero.
Or it would be if Magda wasn't in his face and every other part of his anatomy while she flaunts her attraction and sexuality to him. In the mean time, Ricardo must deal with his father, a renowned author, who suffers from end stage Alzheimer's Disease. When bodies disappear from the morgue, Ricardo finds himself as the police's prime suspect for their murder.
In the novel The God Particle, Mr. Kierkegaard inserts plot points and scenes from Ricardo's father's books. Yes, it was as distracting as what I just wrote, multiple stories from other books, however it is important to have those inserts. There are clues in them that answers what is happening off stage and provides motivation to the character's action. I never had a problem with figuring out if I was currently happening in the novel versus a scene from one of his father's books. This book is well written, interesting, and has surprising twists, although I don't understand what happened to his friends, maybe you will.

Disclosure I received a free copy from ; I also had an offer from NetGalley to read this book in exchange for an honest review. While I could have received an eGalley from NetGalley, I decided to read the free copy I received from to make sure I had the latest version.
Synopsis On the day Ricardo Alomar's four best friends are discovered dead at the launch of their high-tech start-up company, his world is shattered.
The police can find no cause for their mysterious deaths, but as their bodies start disappearing from the morgue, Ricardo is drawn into the investigation of his friends' strange behavior and their even stranger invention, a kind of time-displacement generator utilizing the Higgs boson -- the so-called "God Particle".
At the same time, Ricardo's old world is vanishing, too. His father, Diego, a famous writer of post-modernist Spanish novels, has slipped into mute senility and is dying; Ricardo is in danger of losing his job, and he finds himself falling in love with his recently murdered friend's new widow.
In tandem with a foul-mouthed, sexually harassing female cop, he discovers the secret of the God Particle machine and the startling truth behind his friends' disappearances. But the answer is utterly unlike anything he'd ever expected.
My Thoughts At the time I picked this up, I had been sort of collecting as many of Kierkegaard's books as I could. I read The Department of Magic some time ago, so you can track down my review of that book if you're interested in this author's work. I've been sort of ambivalent about techno-thrillers - sometimes I really like them and sometimes they just leave me cold, so I wasn't sure what to expect from this book.
It has a very interesting premise, and I was rather surprised to find it quite well-edited, since I saw several reviews that mentioned poor editing. It wasn't perfect, but I was at the 6 percent point before I noticed any errors, and after that there weren't too terribly many - mostly missing, extra or flipped words. Perhaps those who complained about the editing had an uncorrected proof, which comprises most ARCs.
I ran across something I wanted to point out; at one point, it is mentioned that Stacy is taking Cymbalta, Wellbutrin and Paxil. Any competent doctor would not allow that, because the mixture of all those SSRIs could cause a potentially fatal side-effect called Serotonin Syndrome. A few years ago I was on both Cymbalta and Wellbutrin SR (prescriptions from different doctors) and when my primary care physician learned about that, she took me off the Wellbutrin. To complicate things, just a bit later Stacy is also said to be on Seroquel, which would also be potentially fatal in that combination. (However, they had the soporific effects of Seroquel down pat - I took that stuff for awhile and it would knock me out; sometimes I'd still be effectively awake but have no idea what I was doing - awful, awful stuff) I wanted to make sure people who read this book are aware of that, because the book makes it sound like this is completely okay when it is in reality very dangerous.
While the premise was interesting, and the characters were quite well-done, I just didn't get that into the book. I have no explanation for my lack of interest, either. It just didn't engage me. While it is well-written and I can't complain about anything in particular, at the same time I constantly found my attention wandering. Those who enjoy techno-thrillers with a strong science-fiction basis should enjoy this.
